Hi, I’m Alex! I’m an online high school tutor with a focus in chemistry, math, and computer science.

I studied computer science at UC Davis, then data science at Columbia University. I work as an AI engineer at Stanford’s Department of Pathology developing cancer detection algorithms.

I aced chemistry, math, and computer science in my studies. These were my three favorite subjects in school; that definitely helped! As a tutor, my goal is to help students navigate the challenges these subjects present.

I believe in teaching by working through example problems. Students are most effective when they can anticipate what types of problems they will be asked. Through my approach, you will learn not just the “what’s” and “how’s”, but also the “why’s”. In doing so, I hope you will learn to enjoy the magic behind chemistry, math, and computer science as you navigate this journey.

Teaching approach

  • Work from your teacher’s material, not a generic curriculum.
  • Build intuition before mechanics. You should know why, not just how.
  • Practice problems together, then you drive while I coach.
  • Annotated notes shared after every session.

Good fit if…

  • You want to actually understand the material, not memorize it.
  • You’re willing to show up and try problems out loud.
  • You can share your class notes or homework ahead of time.
  • You’re in a course I cover (see subjects).
